Is it normal for a cat to behead a chipmunk and then regurgitate the head? Or is my cat a little looney?

My three cats always catch squirrels and chipmunks and all sorts of little animals. Usually they eat everything but the tails (yep, they eat the heads). It usually takes about an hour of chewing for a large grey squirrel, although sometimes they eat it as fast as 10 minutes (teamwork!) and then they sleep the day away because their bellies are so full.

Of course you cat's a little looney, they all are, but boy do we ever love them! :)Is it normal for a cat to behead a chipmunk and then regurgitate the head? Or is my cat a little looney?
Thanks for picking me as your best answerer :) Just saw the detail you added - funny, all my cats are Maine Coon mixes too! At least they sure do look like it.

What kind of cat do you have? Is it an outdoor cat? What do you feed it? Did it eat the rest of the Chipmunk? It probably isn't all that odd the head of a chipmunk probably doesn't have much meat. I don't think it would be easily digested, which could lead to the regurgitation. You might want to call the vet though. If you kitty frequently eats animals it can be infected with parasites and may need treatment for those so your kitty stays healthy. Also try to keep an eye on it to make sure it is eating and going potty normally to make sure there is no bowel obstruction from the chipmunk.
Uh, wow.

Cats frequently decapitate small animals...but swallowing the head? That's a little strange. He probably regurgitated it because most of it is indigestible! And you're lucky he did this - a skull causing intestinal blockage is the last thing you want to deal with.
yes. usually they do this at your feet, but sometimes in the middle of the floor.

a few unlucky cat owners find them in the bed in the morning.

i assume it is to annoy us.
its quite normal for a cat to do that and it might think that it is a prize and its a present for you
Yes, my cat also would kill things and leave them on my front porch in front of my door so that I would see it. They think they have brought you a prize..
Cats usually regurgitate things they know they can't digest. I wouldn't worry. But far out, that's disgusting, lol.
Animals does that type of things. They follow their instincts. Its not looney. Keep in mind that animals are animals whether big or small!
That is grose, poor chipmunk!!
