there are scratching noises in my walls at night what could it beI hear scrating at night in my attic and im told mice dont make noises could it be a chipmunk?
Mice do make noise and during the still of the night they are more noticeable. Could also be a chipmunk or a squirrel or a possum maybe a raccoon. Could be you have bats in your belfry or maybe even a goblin or two, maybe your dreaming and it's Freddy Kruger up there just waiting for the right time to come and get you, maybe a small rat or a GIANT RAT chewing it's way through the wall on it's way to eat you. Could be anything or nothing at all.I hear scrating at night in my attic and im told mice dont make noises could it be a chipmunk?
Mice and rats make plenty of noise....Someone misinformed you there..It may not be what you have in your attic...but they do make noise
Rats or raccoons.
Yes, it could be. More likely a squirrel.
maybe a birds nest or somthingg up there, call animal control, or go up there urself, or better yet, install a camera.
Squirrel, chipmunk... they're just modified versions of rats/mice - looking for a cool place to hang out, dig up some food or nesting materials, and generally be a bit of a pain.

Or... you have small people trapped in the walls trying to get out. :-)

Good Luck with whatever it is!
i lived in a house once...and we heard noises, and came to discover squirrels living in a false wall. it was a real trick to get them out too...they can get very mean! we did manage to get that last meany out, then flashed the entry shut.

they had quite a nest in there...YEARS worth of nesting, about 2 feet deep, INCLUDING dead relatives! i kid you not, the deeper we went, the more squirrel carcasses we uncovered.

those crazy squirrels, i tell ya.
I think it is most likely mice but occasionally you hear about a possum or squirrel getting under the eave and into the walls.

A short story. We we heard scratching so we thumped on the wall and it ';growled'; loud. You should have seen the looks on our faces! Oh my. Turns out it was a possum.
I would say if it's at night, probably a raccoon or possum. Hopefully it isn't a female making a home for babies... ! Mice squeak, I've had them before. Chipmunks and squirrels aren't really night creatures, so I would most likely rule that out. I would.. however, look for however it's getting in there and, making sure there are no babies, block off any entrances...
