Dress out the squirrel and make a pot pie. 2 gray squirrels or 4 reds make one pie. Very tasty.

Use the chipmunk for musky bait.
I grab them by the tail and throw them over the property line into the woods.

Fisher cats will eat them.
Leave em somewhere where a fox/coyote can find it. We have an old stump in the woods. Keeps the foxes happy and out of the trash.
Either bury it or throw it in the trash. If you live in an incorporated area, you had better check to see if you can legally shoot a gun or any weapon within that incorporated area. In mose incorporated areas, it is illegal to fire a gun and in many it is even illegal to shoot a bow (schools, YMCAs, etc. are usually excluded). Be sure you are legal or you could end up with a stiff fine and possibly loose your gun.
Take their dog tags and bury 'em in a shallow grave.
You shot it, you clean it and eat it. Of course, we all know the chances of that are next to nothing. That's the difference between ';hunting'; and ';teenager git with a bb gun looking to kill something for fun';. Show us which category you fit into?

Can someone tell me what the difference between a squirrel and a chipmunk is?

The animals we know as chipmunks and squirrels are all members of the squirrel family. In fact, chipmunks are actually a type of squirrel - a ground squirrel. Prairie dogs are also ground squirrels. What makes a chipmunk a chipmunk is morphological. If it looks like a chipmunk, people tend to call it a chipmunk. There is really no set distinction between chipmunks and other ground squirrels save the recent species divergence on the evolutionary tree. That is to say, chipmunks are more closely related to other chipmunks than other ground squirrels but not by that much. Google a picture of a ground squirrel and you will find they look very much like the animals you know as chipmunks. I am going to assume that the animal you are referring to as a squirrel is in fact a tree squirrel. Lightcommastix's answer is a pretty good one. All chipmunks are squirrels, but not all squirrels are chipmunks (in the same sense as all tigers are cats, but not all cats are tigers). The name chipmunk is generally used to describe the very small ground squirrels that are light to dark brown and are striped.

Here in Colorado, chipmunks are most commonly confused with Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrels - and I'm wondering if that is where your question is coming from. Hmmm, well other than using felt or some sort of actual fur for the face itself, you might be able to get away with some sort of sprays or brush-on flocking.

There is such thing as flocking you can paint on, to give any surface a furry appearance and feeling. You're effectively spreading a thin glue on the surface and sprinkling colored furry powder onto it. Check out this product here for an example of what to look for.

If you're in a hurry or can't be bothered, you can fake the effect of fur by using ';textured'; spray paint from any craft, hobby, or hardware store. The right way to do this is to double the frequency of the audiio. Speeding up the tape will do this also, but the rate of speech also increases by 2. If you double the frequency you get the high pitched voice at the normal speech rate. ANy programme with a pitch shifting plugin. Digital performer, cubase, reason. Type in pitch shifter to a seaarch engine. Remeber that if you are working from one Stereo track everything will be pitched up and the drums, guitar etc will all sound wrong.

How do I fix this so i can make chipmunk songs?

i got audicity to make chipmunk songs. and i made one normal song into a chipmunk song but then this happened:

when i play a song on it its just a high pitched squeek that lasts like a second.

You can change the Bit Rate.

When u download a CD to your computer, the CD (if bought directly) has the highest bit rate. Then when u transfer it to a mp3 file, the bit rate automatically decreases. because if it didnt, every song would take up alot of space. the computer does this by taking out these little noises that your ear doesnt even notice arent there. so if u decrease it even more, your ear will notice, and it will sound like a chipmunk.

Actually Tamias striatus (the eastern chipmunk) is active year round. If you want to see some then put out some nuts on the ground near rock piles and stumps. Keep them out and you will have lots of chipmunks making a permanent home nearby.

My grad work was on squirrels. And now that I have my own property I have lots of chipmunks running around.

Edit. They are more active however in warm weather. In cold weather they tend to stay inside their tunnels more.

my stupid cat caught this baby chipmunk (well i think its a baby) and i have no idea what to fee the little guy,

i gave him some granola mix, with nuts and seeds, and raisins, and he might have had some, but what if he becomes dehydrated?

Umm get a baby bottle if it seems thirsty and out eathier milk or water in it water ever seems to suit it and I think what you are feeding it is good. Well after you do that call your local animal shealter and ask what your supposed to do with it or call you local animal rescue group or animal conrol cause they can give you a name of a group that handles wild animal. If it's a small baby, feed it milk formula. If it's grown, give it some water. But just so you know, it will never be able to fend for itself if you take care of it. If you just leave the food outside I think that's ok. We do that for the squrriel.
If your going to be feeding this little guy be very careful. It is a outdoor rodent and the possibility that it has rabies is there.

To feed it use a little bird seed mixed with a little milk at a time so it doesn't go bad.

Well, the small squirrel sized have-a-heart traps work well for us. Trouble is, we want the squirrels instead of the 'munks. Just bait it with black oil sunflower seeds or canned dices peaches. I think you'll find that you have more than one 'munk. Then take it to the next town over and release it. Unless, of course, you want to throw a party and try Anthony V's suggestion!! LOL

the best way is to use peanuts in a live catch trap and then release it a few miles from home.
We catch raccoons with a live trap and I bet you could catch chipmunks, too. We put peanut butter on crackers and when the critter gets inside, the trap door closes. You can then take it to a park or other wooded area and let it go find a new home. Why do you want to catch them? The ones in our yard are just so cute. They are not destructive like the raccoons.

Chipmunks are almost omnivorous pets. They smell the food already from a far and it's very easy to entice them with goodies. Compared to my dog, my chipmunks are also greedy and they hoard all extra food in they storages against a rainy day. If I open a frozen vegetable bag, carrots and cauliflowers are the only ones which are good enough for my dog whereas my chipmunks eat eagerly everything from the bag. My dog doesn't concern about corn flakes at all, but my chipmunks eat them very willingly. Food hoarding and storing food to their secret hiding-place is peculiarly typical for female chipmunks. On the contrary, male chipmunks start more easily eat their food haul immediately and thus they have easily predisposition to get fat.As a base food chipmunks eat normal seed mixture for rodents. Nuts and sunflower seeds fatten easy and thus you should avoid giving them too much to chipmunks. However, they are not forbidden, only give them with deliberation. As far as I know, that's what they are called: Eastern Chipmunk. (Tamias Striatus).

It is a member of the chipmunk genus called Tamias. They're found throughout eastern North America, and have a life expectancy (in the wild) of about 1 year. I would believe you would refer to the male as a male Eastern Chipmunk, and the female in the same way. The young could be called a Juvenile, or even just 'young' Eastern Chipmunk.

I would try fish and wildlife or try to find a wildlife rescue in your area. Most areas have wildlife rescues you just have to look for them. You can call some local vets and they might be able to tell you where the nears rescue is.
I think you should call animal control, but if you want and are willing to risk that it may have a disease, you can keep it and raise it. Go reasearch what they eat and tips on raising them. =]

I assume that you have used Audacity to record the sound you want, then changed its speed the create your chipmunk. Theodore was always my favorite.

Once Audacity created the AIF, it probably needs to be converted to MP3 or AAC for further use. iTunes can do this for you. Programs like iMovie (for Macs) allow you to align the 'chipmunk' audio track with a video track of the same length.

Unfortunately, you never mentioned what software you are using so specific guidance is impossible.

I am sure that the software you are using will have instructions for this procedure.

By the way, Chipmunks are perfectly capable of cracking open sunflower seeds and he will really enjoy it! Just try not to make a habit of directly hand-feeding him the seeds, or allowing him to SEE you put out the seeds. You don't want to have him getting used to being people-fed! That could be very dangerous for him, especially if he decides to try a neighbor house and the dog there doesn't appreciate his company.

You should try to snap some pictures of him, it would be adorable!

Yes, you definitely can. Chipmunks are a type of rodent and rodents love sunflower seeds. All rodents have teeth for cracking open seeds. I'm pretty sure it will love it! (btw: I heard that too many sunflower seeds can cause some weight gain, so he/she may become a chubby chipmunk! LOL)

No, definitely not! The rabbit could easily (whether intentionally or not) kill the chipmunk by crushing it or kicking out with its powerful hind legs. No, most animals don't do well with others of different species. Also, unless the bar spacing on the cage is appropriate for a chipmunk, it won't stay in the cage for long at all. The spacing on rabbit cages is WAY the hell too large for small rodents. Don't do it.

Is it cruel to blow up a chipmunk?

My friend has been having chipmunk problems at his house.

He is an ex-navy seals and an explosives expert with explosives license.

He made these bait with a detonator in it that when the poor chipmunks bite into it it blows them up. In fact leaves no traces of them!!

I figure if you are going to kill an animal it should be painless and instantaneous.

I lost the boobs first, neck %26amp; face second. The first week is just water weight (sorry) but fat thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise your body will strip it's own lean tissue for nutrition and although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier for you to accumulate fat in the future (since you don't have all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories)

Start with meat %26amp; fats %26amp; salads for a couple of weeks and then you can slowly add in every week more green veg, fresh cheeses, nuts %26amp; seeds, berries, alcohol - if you drink, legumes, other fruits, starchy veg and lastly whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods better.

You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you'll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables %26amp; some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

Your body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow your metabolism to compensate and store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering your calories, it will continue lowering that set point, til you can survive off nothing and store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of food.

Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) and exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

The core of the Atkins program is converting your body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). You need to keep your fat levels at %26gt;65% of your calories, if you don't your body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

It takes minimum of 3 days to convert your body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis) you will probably feel sluggish the first week but most people feel better than ever thereafter.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

Simple carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want ';something'; have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms %26amp; cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.

High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger and unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones %26amp; allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup of water, cinnamon, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle and nuke for 1.5 min. for hot cereal or 2 min. for more of a muffin type thing. Great low carb, high fiber treat. Suggested for daily fiber needs.

The first 2 weeks you can have several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce and celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers and more variety of vegetables thereafter add 5 grams per day additional (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) every week til you gain weight, then you subtract 10 carbs. i lived in a house once...and we heard noises, and came to discover squirrels living in a false wall. it was a real trick to get them out too...they can get very mean! we did manage to get that last meany out, then flashed the entry shut.

they had quite a nest in there...YEARS worth of nesting, about 2 feet deep, INCLUDING dead relatives! i kid you not, the deeper we went, the more squirrel carcasses we uncovered.

If you are really very swollen you may have pericornitis. This is an infection of the tissue surrounding the wisdom tooth that is trying to erupt. This can be extremely painful and requires antibiotics. Sometimes if you have recently seen a dentist they will call some antibiotics in or if you have a regular physician they might call something in. I don't think you should bother. The available habitat in Ohio pretty much has chipmunks everywhere, and if you move it to a new area, the chances are high it will die anyway. I've seen it a lot- animals are transplanted to fully stocked areas and can't find the food, water, and shelter they need before it's too late. You can kill it outright or transplant it. Either way, it's gonna die.
depends on many things. if you fed it stuff, or there is a very good supply of food around your place, like bird feeders, you would have to bring it pretty far aways, like 10 miles away or so. same for if it has babies or something like that around your place. if neither are the case, then a mile or so would do it.

Would the cat understand what you are scolding her for? She was doing what felines do - probably stalking and trying to kill a rodent. The mother would normally do this herself to care for her babies (rodents, dogs, cats, etc.).

They would be nothing like a hamster. They are wild animals and belong in the wild, so please don't attempt to bring them into captivity.
You shouldn't really keep wild animals as pets, but if you take it to the vet and make sure it doesn't have any diseases maybe it would work out, but be careful with them!

You COULD, but it is a very bad idea.

1. It's probably illegal. Capturing native wild animals is almost always against the law, or you need a Wildlife Rehabbers permit.

2. Wild animals often carry parasites and disease. Bringing them into your house can be dangerous to you and your other pets.

3. Since keeping them is illegal, it would be impossible for you to get it treated by a vet if anything ever happened to it. You should never own a pet if you can't help it if it gets hurt, so keeping an illegal wild animal would be extremely irresponsible and selfish.

4.Wild animals need a lot of space. A cage for a chipmunk would need to be about the size of a small closet. They also need to be fed a diet as close to their natural diet as possible, no store-bought foods. Also, in order for it to be even a little happy, you would probably need to capture it a friend or several friends.

5. Wild animals are used to traveling several miles and being very busy foraging for food, digging, building nests, sharpening their claws, gnawing their teeth. An animal like this being kept in a cage will develop obsessive-compulsive behaviours like flipping or spinning because it has SO much energy to burn off. They can also start self-mutilating, like chewing off their own limbs, ripping out their fur, breaking their teeth on the cage bars etc.

6. Wild animals in captivity often develop health problems due to living inside. Vitamin D deficiency, scurvy, Rickett's, WMD, MBD, general malnourishment, etc are all problems you could face. And you would have to be able to treat them yourself.

7. You would probably not be able to hold and pet an animal that you captured. It would always be afraid of you. Even tiny hairless babies raised by people usually become aggressive and unhandleable once they reach sexual maturity.

All-in-all, taking wild animals out of the wild is a bad idea. It's selfish and irresponsible.

If you still want a pet chipmunk, there are breeders out there who breed non-native species that can be kept as pets. You can also contact a Wildlife Rehabber who rehabs chipmunks. Ask them if you can spend some time volunteering so you can see what it's like to care for them. And if you are friends with a rehabber, you can let then know that you are willing to offer a permanent home to a chipmunk who can't be released into the wild, such as one who is missing a leg or was raised by some idiot who thought it would be a good idea and now it can't find it's own food in the wild.
