What is the difference between a squirrel and a chipmunk?

I think the only visible difference is that chipmunks have lines on their faces and squirrels don't.What is the difference between a squirrel and a chipmunk?
I would say mostly squirrel climb trees and chipmunk's stay on the ground. So squirrels have longer tails. But there are exceptions to these rules.What is the difference between a squirrel and a chipmunk?
They belong to the same family, but have different physical characteristics.
